Graduation Reputation!

From what I remember, graduation parties where so much fun. Lots of my friends running in and out of about 15 parties. They all happened on the same day, same time, but a different park. The fact is, they were all the same.  For some kids, this was their 'bash'! Their reputations were on the line! Can you hear the dramatics??  So parents, you better come up big.  It is time to break outta that '30 piece-party in a box' mode and be different! Have FUN with theme, color, food and decor. Just because they are graduating, does not mean all of their immature and silly habits are gone. I'm pretty sure mine linger and may surface at times. Ha! So say good bye to your firework looking streamers and cake with your graduates face on it. Here are a few pics of fun and different ideas to get those creative juices flowin'!

Venue Vanity! Anthology.

Venue Vanity - Part deux.

Anthology is one of our favorite venues in San Diego!  The out- of- the- box concept of having a wedding here, is extremely relevant to what is "IN" right now. Don't get us wrong, we are all for maintaining tradition in our events, but we also LOVE the creative juxtaposition and  unique flair that Anthology possesses.

With capacity ranging anywhere from 10 - 500 guests, there are a wide variety of packages to choose from. Whether you want to rock out in the front row or enjoying a private cocktail  on the mezzanine, Anthology offers an atmosphere sure to impress.

Anthology is definitely  fabulous for weddings, adds the 'fun' to fundraising events, gala's, birthday parties, holiday parties, etc., and it's always where the cool kids come to party .

The L.A. Flower Mart

So, naturally being San Diego residents, we normally shop the wholesale flower marts in our area, however, we recently had the privilege of working on an event in L.A. allowing for a new floral experience.

I must say that the quality, pricing and variety of flowers wasn't a vast difference from what we are used to down in SD, but all and all it was a fun trip and we were able to take some inspiring photos!

SPRING IS BLOOMING!

Here are some pictures of the finished product!

Mason jar madness

Ok, I know I'm a tad behind on being completely obsessed with the mason jar trend , but I am officially all in- hook, line and sinker.  These versatile- and hello, inexpensive!- little decor nuggets are the perfect accent to any type of event.  Plus, there are so many different forums dedicated specifically to awesome DIY mason jar projects, that the decoration possibilities are virtually endless.  Whether it be using the jars alongside tea light candles (use faux tea lights when outdoors to avoid fires!) to create soft lighting during an evening wedding, baking personal sized pies within the jars for a fundraiser, sipping the season's best tasting cocktail, or filling them with candy and handing them out as a birthday party favor, mason jars are definitely a fun and easy way to add a creative touch to any event!

Oh, no, they didn't.... again!

Bad wedding photots are real. And super unfortunate. However, when it's not YOUR wedding photos that end up on these blogs, they're really, really funny! I'm not sure if it's best suited to call the photos tasteless or to call the individuals clueless, but either way, we salute them and the Internet for helping to contribute to our 'Oh no, she didn't,' series!

AND THE WINNER THIS WEEK....

Flower power for half the price

Let's face it- most weddings these days aren't cheap.  However, for the super savvy consumer (myself included), there are quite a few ways to cut costs while still putting on a fabulously expensive looking event.  My number one go- to when it comes to cost cutting, is always to eliminate some of the flower expense.  The cost for wedding flowers is usually around 8- 10% of your wedding budge, typically beginning around $800.00, and going up from there.  Now, before you lose your lunch or throw something at the computer screen, let me tell you that there are plenty of ways to karate chop that number in half.

1.  Helllllo wholesale!
You can literally save hundreds of dollars by ordering flowers from a wholesale distributor.  However, you need to do your research and make sure to find a good, reputable wholesaler, preferably linked to positive online reviews.  You'll also need to be sure that the time frame of ordering and delivering works for your schedule.  You'll probably need to place the order a few weeks in advance.  And you're also going to be responsible for the cleaning, trimming, prep time etc., not to mention actually keeping the flowers alive!  Some great online wholesales include: Whole Blossoms, and  Fifty Flowers, and for tropical flowers, check out Wholesale Tropical Flowers.  Of course, if you research wholesale flowers shops in your own town, you're more than likely able to find one to fit your needs.

2.  Silk flowers
We've all gone to the large craft stores that are stocked floor to ceiling with fake flowers.  These are not the flowers I am talking about (although you may actually find some that work just fine).  Contact a local florist who is familiar with fresh AND silk floral design, and he/ she should be able to discuss the options available to fit your budget.  When done properly, silk flowers can be made to look beautifully charming and just as elegant as the real thing.

3.  Use what's in season
Obviously, roses are always available and a beautiful complement to any event, however, steer clear of this popular bloom during holidays or when they're out of season.  Choosing seasonal or better yet- locally grown flowers will reduce the cost immensely.  Not only will the blooms be available, but you won't be needing to have them imported from South America or elsewhere.

4.  Go Green!
I kind of mean that in an eco- friendly, save the earth way, but mostly in the literal sense.  Use greenery in lieu of blooms.  Centerpieces showcasing sweet, little succulents potted in various containers, or vines of ivy twisting and crawling the length of a reception hall table, are beautiful and creative ways to cut down flower expense.

5.  Location
Choosing an aesthetically beautiful location will put you ahead in the decor budget.  Botanical gardens, town parks, and beaches are all great options and obvious savers when it comes to the floral budget.  Also, if you are planning a church wedding, consider minimizing the decor and leaving the focus on the ornate detailing within the church.  And consider that many facilities- including churches- decorate for the holidays, so holding a December wedding may allot you gorgeous Poinsettias and twinkle lights- free of cost.
