Superbowl of Hollywood fashion- for the normal folk

Awards season is done and over with, and some of the hottest and trendiest threads and accessories were pranced across many a red carpet this year.  Now, it's pretty obvi that us 'normal' folk don't traipse across velvety runners while thousands of fans scream our names.  However, that doens't mean that we don't have awesome events, black tie dinners, uber posh weddings, etc., where we need to be lookin' extra good. I know, I know- Cameron Diaz's arms are unrealsitic, Gwyneth Paltow's waist is seriously tiny, and Giselle's legs probably stop at her neck- but get over it!  Learn how to dress to impress while embracing your shape and strengths! Here are a few tips on how to look smokin' hot with your particular body style.

The pleasantly plush waist line

The look of the waistline is often the 'make it or break it' when it comes to purchasing a cocktail dress or gown.  For the thicker waisted gals, snag a dress that has an awesome point of interest somewhere other than the waistline i.e. the off- the- shoulder LPD above.  Make sure not to wear dresses that change color or have patterns at the waist- no need to draw attention to that area.  If opting for a two piece outfit, avoid full skirts, shrugs, and fitted jackets; all are no bueno.  However, long fitting tops that end at your hip line will create an illuison of length and thiness- amen to that!

The big busted gals

Having large ta tas can pose a serious challenge for women who are trying to keep it classy without having a wear a muumuu.  First of all, it may seem logical to wear a high neck line and cover your cleavage, but this is a seriously unflattering look.  You're better off choosing a dress with a modest neck line that still covers up the goods.  Also, try out the strapless dress.  You've got enough on top to hold it up, and this style also focuses attention on your shoulders and face; away from your bust.  Also, opt for an enviable pair of dangly earrings or cute hair accents rather than a necklace.  Whichever type of dress you choose- work with what your mama gave you!

Flat as a pancake
Be daring!  Go for a plunging top- no one else can wear these, or or a backless halter dress.  Just accentuate other areas and show some skin.  A dress that has some extra detailing across the bust or that hugs your figure tight will flatter even the smallest of bubbies.  If you're still feeling self- conscious, go purchase a pair of chicken cutlets to boost your bust and self- confidence for the night.

Short stumps I mean legs

First and foremost- wear heels.  Always wear heels.  Nude colored heels are super trendy right now and also do you the favor of elongating your legs.  Plus, they go with just about any color dress; which makes purchasing a quality pair a superb investment.  As far as dresses go, anything with a high waist- think empire waist- will make your legs look extra long and lean.  If the event permits, go for a shorter hem line (if you're comfortable with it).  Unless it's ball gown length, the calf, tea length or ankle grazing skirts and dresses aren't going to do your covered up limbs any favors. If your event is semi- casual, think about slapping a belt around your waist; it'll help create the illusion of height as well.

I can't stand the terms 'pear,' 'apple,' 'hour glass,' etc. when people talk about body shapes.  I am none of those, and I'm sure there are plenty of others who would agree with me on that.  So rather than labeling  yourself in one of those categories, just be you and rock the body parts you have and love.  There's a sexy dress for everyone and every body type- you just need to take the time to find it!
